Suggestions for 2010 Convention
By Carrie | July 19, 2009
Before I give any recaps of the 2009 Blackhawks Convention, I have a few suggestions to offer Mr. Wirtz, the rest of the Hawks staff and the Hilton staff, as well.

- Start check-in at an hour before the convention starts. This way, you don’t have confused crowds (and fire hazards) with different lines crashing into each other.
- On the first night, don’t let people into the hall where the autograph sessions are taking place until they are supposed to be in there. By opening the hall so people can take a look around/watch the Opening Ceremony on the TVs, you are inviting them to gather around and line up for the autograph sessions two hours ahead of time… when you don’t even want them to do that in the first place.
- Enforce the rules. If you say you will revoke all autograph privileges for those who line up earlier than 20 minutes before a signing, actually follow through with it. Don’t just have security yell at 100+ people over and over.
- Speaking of enforcing the rules… don’t let the hot chicks get by with two, three autographs while you’re telling everyone else they can only get one. You’re not going to get a date with any of those girls. These puck bunnies want the PLAYERS… duh…
- If you are so concerned with crowd control and fire hazards, perhaps you should use two rooms for autograph sessions. You have to expect that a crapload of fans will be wanting to meet the players. So don’t be so surprised when it’s shoulder-to-shoulder in the autograph room and you can’t really move people out of there when you want to
OK, that’s enough ranting. Recaps coming soon, possibly later tonight!

I completely agree with you about the whole registration ballroom thing…it was pure chaos. As far as the autographs go…on saturday people were waiting for two hours to get INTO the room to wait in the individual signing lines. crazzzzy. Ontop of that, the lines for each player was a pure guess. We just into a line and hoped it was for someone good because no one even knew who they were in line for….it was Hjalmarsson…so we left the line after waiting forever. I must admit the Sharp line was ridiculous and had it been any other player I wouldn’t have waited, but four hrs to see my husband…i mean…favorite player seemed worth it. Worth it to me and only me, no one I went with waited with me!

Time to move the convention to a larger venue.

Definitley in need of a larger venue! having one autograph session in a room at a time, instead of five stages and five crazy lines all over the place!
