Suggestions for 2010 Convention
By Carrie | July 19, 2009
Before I give any recaps of the 2009 Blackhawks Convention, I have a few suggestions to offer Mr. Wirtz, the rest of the Hawks staff and the Hilton staff, as well.

- Start check-in at an hour before the convention starts. This way, you don’t have confused crowds (and fire hazards) with different lines crashing into each other.
- On the first night, don’t let people into the hall where the autograph sessions are taking place until they are supposed to be in there. By opening the hall so people can take a look around/watch the Opening Ceremony on the TVs, you are inviting them to gather around and line up for the autograph sessions two hours ahead of time… when you don’t even want them to do that in the first place.
- Enforce the rules. If you say you will revoke all autograph privileges for those who line up earlier than 20 minutes before a signing, actually follow through with it. Don’t just have security yell at 100+ people over and over.
- Speaking of enforcing the rules… don’t let the hot chicks get by with two, three autographs while you’re telling everyone else they can only get one. You’re not going to get a date with any of those girls. These puck bunnies want the PLAYERS… duh…
- If you are so concerned with crowd control and fire hazards, perhaps you should use two rooms for autograph sessions. You have to expect that a crapload of fans will be wanting to meet the players. So don’t be so surprised when it’s shoulder-to-shoulder in the autograph room and you can’t really move people out of there when you want to
OK, that’s enough ranting. Recaps coming soon, possibly later tonight!

Like a kid at Christmas…
By Carrie | July 17, 2009
I can’t sleep! It’s almost 4 a.m. While everyone in Chicagoland peacefully sleeps under the blanket of the raven sky, I lie awake, thinking about the Hawks Convention
It kicks off today! To be honest, though, the only things I’m interested in for this first day are the Opening Ceremonies and the Second City performance. Supposedly, two “Chicago icons” who used to be part of Second City will be putting on a sports-themed skit with the help of some Hawks players. Adam Burish, anyone?
My boyfriend wants to meet Bob Probert and Steve Larmer. While I liked the Hawks as a kid, I wasn’t really into them (for shame, I know). So while I know Probert was a good fighter and that Larmer won the 1983 Calder Memorial Trophy, I’m more into the current players. And while I know Cristobal Huet will be signing tonight, I’d much rather see what kind of antics will be going on in the Second City skit.
I think this is because I love all of the videos I see on Blackhawks.com and on Mouthpiece Sports. Baseball has always been my number one sport, but I’ve never seen a sports franchise interact so much with fans as the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team does. The players are happy to be interviewed, they want to show the fans how they like to joke around and it always reminds us that these supernatural-like athletes are just like you and me.
You’ve heard of Christmas in July, right? Well, for many of us… that’s the Blackhawks Convention.

Welcome to We’re not the Ice Crew!
By admin | July 16, 2009
As you’ve probably guessed by now, this site is run by a bunch of lady Blackhawks fans. We’re opinionated, we’re not afraid to speak our minds and we don’t primp for hours before heading to the United Center. Hell, some of us can’t even skate. So it is with great pleasure that we take to the Internets–not the ice–to entertain you with our rants and ramblings, our praises and disappointments and, most importantly, our big Blackhawk crushes.
